Richard Wood.
Richard joined Trethowan Architecture soon after its establishment in 2001 and along with Bruce is a principal of the company. His experience in project design and documentation, project management and IT is a valued aspect of the practice’s overall expertise.

Richard graduated in architecture from RMIT in 1984. As a student, Richard worked with the Intergraph Corporation, an American company; a leader in developing and installing computer aided design equipment. This allowed him to gain knowledge of computer design systems within an architectural environment.

In 1984, Richard joined Computer Plot Australia, as Computer System Manager, working with a large number of leading architectural practices on high profile office and hotel developments in Melbourne. Richard was awarded first prize in the Intergraph International Graphics Users Group Competition for his architectural computer graphics.

In 1987 Richard joined the Architectural practice of Axia and was responsible for architectural documentation and coordination for two substantial award winning high rise projects in the Melbourne CBD. Richard relocated to Bangkok in 1989 and led architectural documentation teams working on major residential apartment and hotel projects in Bangkok. In 1990 the company Nation Fender Architects, emerged from the disbanded Axia practice and Richard was promoted to Associate Director with responsibility for all international computer facilities within the practice. In 1991, Richard relocated to Paris with responsibility for the setup of an architectural and computer facility, working with a French builder on a multi billion dollar satellite city in Thailand. In 1992, Richard relocated to Hong Kong to work on international projects, ranging from client presentations to competition proposals, architectural illustrations and documentation. He returned to Bangkok in 1993.

Richard returned to Melbourne in 1995 to the Architects in Association Consortium working on the prestigious Crown Casino Hotel tower as Senior Architectural Documenter. He joined Robert Peck von Hartel Trethowan in July 1996 as Senior Architectural Documentation Captain responsible for the Hilton on Collins refurbishment and Parliament House projects. In addition to Architectural duties, his responsibilities at Robert Peck von Hartel Trethowan included development, implementation and co-ordination of the 2D/3D CAD facility in the product areas of Architectural Triforma, Project Wise, Visualisation and Bentley Microstation suites. He also maintained and promoted IT & C systems across the practice’s three offices in Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra.
